ChatGPT Agent Mode: Autonomous agents that can execute multi-step workflows

By augustus 21, 2025No Comments3 min read

If you’re still slogging through Google Ads setups, manual competitor checks, and endless keyword research, it’s time to hand the boring bits to your new AI intern: ChatGPT’s Agent Mode. Forget the hype—this isn’t just another chatbot. It’s a digital marketing game-changer that can automate, optimize, and even outsmart your competition, all while you focus on the fun stuff (like taking credit for the results).

What Is ChatGPT’s Agent Mode?

Agent Mode is basically ChatGPT on steroids. Instead of just answering questions or generating copy, it can autonomously perform complex tasks inside platforms like Google Ads, analyze websites, connect to your CRM, and execute multi-step workflows with minimal human input. Think of it as a digital assistant that doesn’t need coffee breaks and never complains about Mondays.

Setting Up a Google Ads Campaign: AI Does the Heavy Lifting

Recently, I put Agent Mode to the test by asking it to create a Google Ads search campaign for a business targeting Dutch and French speakers in Belgium. Here’s the prompt I used:

  • Create a search campaign in Google Ads for a business targeting Dutch and French speakers in Belgium.
  • Set a budget based on the information provided, with a start date of September 1st.
  • Use exact and phrase match keywords relevant to the website, pulling data from the website itself.
  • Add ad headlines focusing on performance, agency metrics, and conversion optimization.

Once I activated Agent Mode, ChatGPT got to work. It analyzed my prompt, accessed the Google Ads account (with my permission), and started building the campaign. It set the right languages, location, and start date (after correcting itself once—hey, even AI isn’t perfect). It calculated the daily budget and, instead of just using my keyword list, scanned the website for even more relevant keywords.

The ad headlines? ChatGPT riffed on my suggestions and came up with gems like:

  • “Performance Agency Metrics”
  • “Expert Google Ads and Meta Ads”
  • “Strategic Conversion and CRO”

Not exactly what I wrote, but still on-brand and totally usable. After a quick review, I hit publish—and the campaign was live, all with minimal effort on my part.

Beyond Google Ads: Insane agent mode use cases for PPC

Sure, campaign setup is cool, but Agent Mode’s powers go way beyond that. Here are five use cases that will make any PPC marketer’s life easier:

1. Lead Research Agent for Targeted Campaigns

Stop wasting hours digging for prospects. Agent Mode can scour the web for companies hiring PPC specialists or showing signals they need your services. It compiles lists with company names, locations, and relevant job postings—so you can build laser-targeted campaigns faster than ever.

2. AI News Monitoring Agent for Industry Insights

Staying current is half the PPC battle. Set up Agent Mode to monitor news, press releases, and product updates from Google Ads, Meta, and your competitors. Get daily summaries of algorithm changes or new ad formats delivered straight to your inbox—no more FOMO.

3. Competitor Price Monitoring Agent for Strategic Bidding

Competitor snooping just got automated. Configure Agent Mode to check your rivals’ pricing pages, compare them to your own, and ping you when prices change. React fast, adjust your bidding strategy, and stay ahead—without manually checking a single website.

4. Competitive Analysis Agent for Deep Dive Insights

Want to know what your competitors are really up to? Agent Mode can deliver executive briefs, slide decks, and data sets covering everything from ad copy and landing page strategies to market positioning. It’s the kind of research that used to cost a fortune, now done in minutes.
